home / conservation /grizzly bear / Habitat loss, Hazing, and Habituation
Awhile back we wrote about the improbability of Alberta’s Mountain Parks significantly contributing to the province’s recovery efforts citing among other issues a lack of space for grizzlies to establish themselves once out of the park – link here (Parks Canada to the Rescue). This week the Rocky Mountain Outlook (Young grizzly hazed from east gate) – link here and the Camore Leader (Bears active in the Bow Valley) – link here contain articles pertaining to the difficulties a young grizzly is confronted with as he sets out on his own beyond the park boundaries. Habitat loss, hazing, and habituation times are indeed tough.
