home / travel gear / Review – MSR’s Hubba Hubba

For the past two seasons we’ve been using MSR’s lightweight, full-featured, 3 season Hubba Hubba as our tent of choice. The Hubba Hubba is a freestanding two person tent weighing in Hubba Hubba in Dinsaur Provincial Park ABat under 4 pounds. A unique pole system creates near verticle walls giving the shelter a lofty 40″ peak with a reasonable 29 sq ft interior creating a cozy workspace to transfer and edit images in the field without worrying about hitting your head on the ceiling when seated. Pitching the included rainfly/vestibule allows you to store boots and packs out of the elements and sit out inclimate weather in relative comfort. The optional footprint (ground sheet) allows the Hubba Hubba to be set up as the ultimate lightweight shelter using just the rainfly.

Hubba Hubba - Grasslands National Park SKAfter two seasons and over 80 nights the Hubba Hubba has performed like a champ keeping our gear protected from the elements including having to sit out severe thunderstorms during tornado threat conditions in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

Hubba Hubba - Badlands National Park SDOverall there is much to appreciate in this tent – well constructed for backcountry use and abuse, lightweight, and reasonably priced. Theoretically carrying the Hubba Hubba should result in less muscle fatigue at the end of a days journey, however, a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 has negated the benefit of a lightweight shelter… Go figure!
