Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
I’ve taken a liberal amount of creative license with the post processing of this image because though it may not be the greatest image I’ve ever created it is one that I’ll never forget and thus deserves it’s place within this special image gallery.
In preparing for this safari I expected to see and photograph three of the big five game animals – elephant, buffalo, and lion would be the given. Rhino was a possibility to see; photographing properly would be difficult due to access restrictions within the parks. Fickle at the best of times and very easy to miss in the long grass area of the Serengeti where we were based I’d figured if we missed one of the bunch it would be the leopard.
It took three days to find a leopard but like many things in life once you know what to look for you’re odds of finding another increase dramatically. It also helped to have an excellent guide!!! We ended up seeing 4 different leopards on our last day and a half on the Serengeti. Here’s an image of two of them. The rear end of a cub can be seen to the left of the tree trunk. The little one waited patiently for a turn to dine on a gazelle.
