I know… it’s Saturday. I returned from a business trip last night and didn’t have time to put this one together.
Yikes where did the summer go?!? Shorter days, yellow jackets (wasps) and heavy morning dew are the tell tale signs that autumn is just around the corner. This far north we don’t get the vibrant reds that are commonplace in the east yet my drive home yesterday provided a visual feast of yellow and burnt orange that ignited the river valleys along my route. With the days still relatively warm it’s time again to pack the family into the car for a Sunday road trip to see the best the season has to offer:
- The eastern U.S. has a whole tourism industry dedicated to the annual event that is autumn and leaf watching. Want to know where to see the best colours in New Hampshire two weeks from now? Check out the New Hampshire Fall Foliage Report. This state run tourism site is pretty cool offering an interactive map that displays prime locations and events. Check these sites for information in New York, Vermont, and Maine.
- Looking to hit the road and see the sites in in Minnesota? Have a look at Minnesota Fall Color Routes to assist you in putting together your road trip.
- Can’t see the forest of colour for the trees? The US Forest Service can help out with their Fall Colors Site that breaks the information down to the regional level.
- Want to take better fall photos? The state of Vermont knows a thing or two about putting on a great fall festival and offers these Fall Foliage Photo Tips. Finally, New York Institute of Photography Dean Chuck DeLaney writes about How to Photograph Autumn Color. The article’s a little longer than most but is still a good read and resource for the shutterbug of the family.
